Frequently asked questions
Why can two people with the same gross salary receive a different net?
CSS (9.75%) and education tax (1.25%) are deducted equally for everyone, but ISR depends on annual salary: exempt up to $11,000, 15% from $11,000 to $50,000, and 25% above $50,000. A higher salary therefore withholds proportionally more ISR and leaves a different net.
If my annual salary doesn't exceed $11,000, is ISR deducted from my pay?
No. ISR is exempt up to $11,000 per year, so at those salaries the ISR withholding is zero. CSS (9.75%) and education tax (1.25%) are still deducted, as they don't depend on the ISR bracket.
Does the employer's CSS contribution come out of my net salary?
No. What's deducted from you is the employee share: 9.75% CSS and 1.25% education tax. The employer contribution (13.25% CSS and 1.50% education tax) is paid separately by the company and does not reduce your net.
Does nominaHQ compute net pay for my whole payroll automatically?
Yes. nominaHQ applies CSS, education tax and ISR to each employee every period and generates the SIPE file for CSS and the ACH files for your bank. You can try it free for 30 days with up to 5 employees, no card required.
